There are 8 bits to a byte. Mb is short for megabit and MB is short for megabyte. Similarly Gb means gigabit and GB is gigabyte.
ECC (error correction circuits, error correcting code or error correction code) memory has an additional bit used for error detection and correction. In this case 9 bits of data are used to store each byte.
